How much does lawn care cost in Memphis?
Most Memphis-area homeowners pay $45 to $65 per cut for a quarter-acre lot, $65 to $100 for a half acre, and $100 or more for an acre. LawnStarter puts the Memphis average mow at $49.40. A full year of mowing typically runs $900 to $1,500, or $1,000 to $2,200 with treatments included.

What the local data actually shows
Memphis is one of the few markets where you can triangulate a real number instead of guessing from a national average, because several platforms publish city-specific figures:
| Source | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| LawnStarter, Memphis | $49.40 | Average mowing price; average yard 6,021 sq ft |
| LawnStarter, Olive Branch | $49.57 | City average mowing price |
| LawnStarter, Germantown | $44.02 | City average mowing price |
| Master Lawn (Memphis / Olive Branch) | $43–$64 | Per visit; $246–$608 annually; ~$55 average customer |
| GreenPal, Memphis | $35–$50 | Basic mow, standard residential lawn; $55+ if large or overgrown |
| Thumbtack, Memphis | $35 / $50 / $100 | Small subdivision lot / half acre / one acre |
| Odyssey Lawn Care, Southaven | from $50 | Advertised starting rate, standard residential lot |
The cluster is tight: a normal residential cut in this metro is a mid-$40s to mid-$60s job. Anything meaningfully below that usually means edging is not included, the blade is dull, or the operator is not going to be in business next season.
Price by lot size
Lot size is the single biggest driver, which is why we publish by band rather than by a single headline number:
- Under 5,000 sq ft: $35–$45 per cut. Townhomes, patio homes, small in-town lots.
- Quarter acre (5,000–11,000 sq ft): $45–$65. The standard DeSoto and Shelby County subdivision lot, and the most common quote we write.
- Half acre (11,000–22,000 sq ft): $65–$100. Common in Olive Branch, Bartlett and Collierville.
- About an acre: $100–$140. Executive lots and Arlington-style new construction.
- Over an acre: priced per acre. Open ground is bush hogging territory at $125–$320 an acre.
What a monthly plan costs
Monthly cost is just per-cut price multiplied by frequency. Weekly service averages about 4.3 cuts a month; every-other-week averages about 2.2. So a $55 quarter-acre lot is roughly $235 a month weekly or $120 a month bi-weekly during the growing season.
Nationally, basic mowing-only monthly plans run $100–$200 and full-service plans that add fertilization, weed control and aeration run $200–$400. Thumbtack's Memphis-specific data shows an up-to-8,000-square-foot property commonly sold at $30 a week or $120 a month, with 15,001–20,000 square foot properties at $160 a month.
The whole-year number
If you would rather budget annually: LotSite.ai estimates a typical 9,800 square foot Memphis-metro lot at $30–$50 per mow across roughly 30 mows a year, producing $900–$1,500 in annual mowing. Add fertilization, aeration, weed control and leaf cleanup and full annual lawn care lands at $1,000–$2,200 a year. Master Lawn's own published figure — $246 to $608 annually, averaging around $400 — reflects treatment programs rather than mowing, which is why it sits lower.
What makes two identical-looking yards price differently
- Trimming footage. A fenced lot with beds, a pool and a playset has several times the string trimming of an open lot the same size.
- Gate width. If a 60-inch deck will not fit, the back yard gets cut with a 21-inch walk-behind and takes roughly three times as long.
- Slope and ditch banks. Slow, careful work.
- Condition on arrival. An overgrown first cut is $75–$150+, because it is a double-cut job with clippings to haul.
- Route position. A yard on an existing route day genuinely costs less to serve than an outlier twenty minutes away.
Add-on costs in this market
Rounded ranges for the rest of the year: spring cleanup $125–$300; fall cleanup $150–$400; overgrown-yard reset $400–$800; leaf removal $150–$290 for a quarter acre, $210–$475 for a half acre and $400–$925 for a full acre; mulch $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed; bush hogging $125–$320 an acre. Commercial and HOA contracts in the Memphis market start around $450–$550 a month.
All of it is published on our pricing page, and the quote tool will price your specific lot in about a minute.
Is lawn care cheaper in Mississippi than in Memphis?
Marginally, and mostly because of lot size and drive time rather than any state-line effect. LawnStarter's Olive Branch average of $49.57 is essentially identical to Memphis at $49.40. Our own DeSoto County base rates sit a few percent under our Collierville and Arlington rates, which is drive time, not geography.
Why do some companies quote $30 a cut?
Usually because the scope is smaller than you think. GreenPal notes smaller yards can be closer to $30 in Memphis, and that is legitimate on a tiny lot. On a normal quarter acre, a $30 price generally means no hard edging, no blow-off, or an operator working without insurance and equipment maintenance built into the rate.
Should I pay monthly or per cut?
It is the same money either way — monthly billing is just the cuts you received, grouped. What matters is that you are not paying a flat monthly fee during winter dormancy. Warm-season lawns here stop growing at the first killing frost in early-to-mid November and do not green up until early-to-mid April.
